Here we summarise the seven steps of the  manufacturing process to keep you well-informed about this non-woven textile and fashion items made from this material.

Step one starts from collection, wherein farmers collect pineapples leaves, the by -product of pineapple agriculture to undergo manufacturing process. This follows with decortication, generally known as peeling out layers from a structure with their bare hands to extract fibers. In the context of Piñatex®, farmers operate a decorticating machine to extract the pineapple fibers before compiling them to be cleaned with streaming water. Once purified, farmers hang up the fibers to dry naturally. The process continues with degumming or shredding the fibers and this transforms the raw material into the base of  the Piñatex® textile. The non-woven textile is then transported to Spain to undergo a specialised finishing process, which is known as coating the textile with a material that gives it a leather like appearance.
